FRANZ COLTRANE

On November 19 th 1962, while he was on tour in Europe, due to fog John Coltrane's flight for Milan was redirected a little less than fifty miles and over 136 years. When Coltrane after a night's sleep tried to find his way back to the airport, as fate would have it, he met the composer Franz Schubert, who was already very ill at that time. Their encounter had a decisive influence on the musical artistry of them both, and on the development of the classical as well as the improvised musical arts. But what actually happened during that meeting on the 26th of September 1826? In our performance "Franz Coltrane" we try to find an answer to this question that has eluded music scholars all over the world for such a long time. (Photo: Thomas Gidén)
