FRANZ COLTRANE

(Photo: Thomas Gidén)

On November 19 th 1962, while he was on tour in Europe, due to fog John Coltrane's flight for Milan was redirected a little less than fifty miles and over 136 years. When Coltrane after a night's sleep tried to find his way back to the airport, as fate would have it, he met the composer Franz Schubert, who was already very ill at that time. Their encounter had a decisive influence on the musical artistry of them both, and on the development of the classical as well as the improvised musical arts. But what actually happened during that meeting on the 26th of September 1826? In our performance "Franz Coltrane" we try to find an answer to this question that has eluded music scholars all over the world for such a long time.

Premiered on July 3, 2007 at Lyckå Chamber Music Festival, Karlskrona.

At Ystad Opera House on december 3
and
Kulturhuset, Stockholm on december 5

We are interested in performing in more venues as well. Do call.

In 1996 Bengt Berger, drums Jonas Knutsson, saxes and Christian Spering, double bass formed a trio, having played together in various swedish constellations. We are still at it.

Since the start we have played all over Sweden and in Denmark, Finland, Belgium, France and Morrocco.

From september 2004 we run a jazz club, Mondo Jazz, 23 mondays at a stretch in Stockholm. In the spring of 2005 we moved to Bacci and played up to december 12.

In the summer of 2006 we did a "Don Giovanni Crossover" with Berth Nilsson conducting the Camerata Lyckensis with soloists and Niklas Rådström reading his own text about Mozart and Don G.

We have so far done six cd:s:
